Sunday saw us return to Yabbieland for our 3rd Annual JA memorial Day where our Past Champions V Select Present 11 competed in a fiercely fought, light hearted, lots of fun and laughter T20 match. Again we had returning Yabbies from all corners of the country along with family members of Yabbies gone by. A great day was had by all young and not so young exchanging tales from the past and present throughout the day.

The cricket match almost seemed like a secondary event to the good times being had once again under the roof line of our great clubrooms.
However we did have a cricket match and what a match it was with the Present 11 winning the toss and much to Kingys horror we sent them into bat “you won the toss Stu so how is it we are bowling” with that infamous king look we have all had.
The past 11 certainly made short work of the bowling attack taking most of us to all parts of the ground, Ron Milnes who despite having 10 in the slips on his first delivery still managed to cut his way through. Best with the willow was probably Paul Dorbolo with mentions to Stephan Boltong and Chris Sharpe.
At the end of the innings our past champions had amassed a very challenging score of 4/215 which soon became 225 when Brad Senior took it upon himself to argue with the Game day 3rd umpire Gunners who rightfully penalised us another 10 runs. After a delicious lunch we then made our way back out onto the oval to begin our chase. much like the first innings there was plenty of lusty hitting with several balls dispatched to all parts of the ground. Timing our innings to perfection we managed to scrape over the line on the second last ball of the day with a huge 6 from the coach although top honors went to our ring in “yes he is still on our list Gunners” Nick Fairbank with mentions to Brad Senior and Jono Sherer giving the current select 11 its first ever win.
Huge thanks goes out to everyone who made this day the roaring success that it was with special mention to Chris Gunton for his organisation and Melanie Langley and Annika Enell for making sure we were all fed, Phil Brook once again behind the bar and anyone else who’s name slips my mind.
